Controversial plans for house at village stables to go before committee
By James Smith 18th May 2026
Councillors will next week decide whether to allow a local stables to build a family home on site.
Warwick District Council's planning committee will consider the application for Peacock Stables in Rowington which could see a four-bedroom home built.
A previous application granted permission for a log cabin to be installed on site for three years as a temporary 'rural worker's dwelling'.
This fresh submission would provide a permanent house.
A report to be discussed by the committee has recommended the application be approved.
It said: "Both officers and the specialist rural consultant are of the view that the dwelling proposed is modest in size and would be suitable to house the rural worker and her family on a permanent basis."
The application has received 23 objections from locals who say there is no justification for the house and that it is too big for the area.
Rowington Parish Council has also objected saying a family house is bigger than a normal rural worker's cottage and there is no need for it on site.
The applicant has argued they need to be on site to look after the horses which are rehabilitating and to monitor the breeding program.
The council's report continued: "There are currently five horses on rehabilitation livery not the six previously projected.
"In addition, the breeding element of the business has decreased from two mares to one.
"The rehabilitation element of the business has also been operating below the current numbers for much of the time between the prior application and this one.
"Nevertheless, on balance, it is still considered that the existing business maintains the requirement for an on-site dwelling to accommodate the needs of the business."
