All children who were being forced to live in bed and breakfasts as temporary accommodation in Warwick district have been found more suitable lodgings, councillors have been told.

Speaking at last week's Kenilworth Town Council meeting, Cllr Kate Dickson revealed colleagues at the district council had taken action just before Christmas to tackle the issue.

A letter from the head of housing at Warwick District Council said: "We commenced an initiative at the beginning of November and identified a total of 57 children under the age of 18 who were living in temporary accommodation, 22 of whom were living in B&B or equivalent.

"As a result of the team's effort, I am delighted to share with you that there were no children in B&B accommodation.

"The overall number of children living in temporary accommodation has reduced by 39 per cent."

The news was welcomed across the board by councillors.

Cllr Kate Dickson said: "It is some good news for a change.

She added: "Lets be aware this affects every town and parish in the district, it is not something that is far removed."

The initiative had been prompted by questions asked by Cllr Dickson at the town hall last year.
