Aldi has won its planning battle to open a new entrance and exit at its Tachbrook Park Drive store's car park.

The supermarket chain has been granted permission to turn a delivery entrance off Queensway into a new access for shoppers.

The issue first went before Warwick District Council's planning committee in January, but a decision was kicked down the road with more information sought from highways officers.

Councillors were due to consider the application again in February but they were pulled from the agenda at the 11th hour.

The application went before the committee again on Tuesday (June 16) and was approved after planning officers had recommended it be given the green light.

Safety concerns were raised by locals and councillors over the proposals.

The previous iteration of the plans included a 1.5-metre-wide pedestrian path painted in between parking spaces and moving vehicles.

This was removed from the scheme before this week's meeting.

Other concerns that the car park would lead to rat-running vehicles cutting through the car park to avoid traffic signals at the Europa Way roundabout were also raised.

Cllr Richard Dickson asked if there was possibility to grant permission on a temporary basis to assess the impact but was told it had only been considered as a permanent switch.

A 5mph speed limit is also planned for the car park.

A council report said: "Since the consideration of this application at planning committee in January 2026 further clarification [h]as been sought from WCC highways authority in relation to rat-running through the site.

"WCC Highways Authority has advised that it is difficult to quantify how frequently rat-running may occur, however if it did they have advised that both accesses have sufficient space capacity to not result in a detriment to the public highway so the impacts would specifically be increased traffic within the site and how it may impact pedestrians.

"They have advised that this impact could be argued to be minimal as any vehicles travelling between the two access points would follow a specific route and the cross over between the route and route pedestrians are taking is minimal."
