A Coventry man who used a garden fork to break into a home in Warwick has been jailed for three and a half years.

Ryan Kean, aged 41, of Orton Road, Coventry was sentenced at Coventry Crown Court on Thursday (5 January) after being found guilty of burglary and attempted burglary.

The burglary took place in August 2020 when Kean broke into a house in Myton Road, Warwick and stole a number of items including jewellery.

He was seen on CCTV climbing over the fence to the property before using a fork to force open a window and gain entry.

The attempted burglary happened the month before, when Kean again used a garden fork to try to break into a house in Eaton Close, Leamington.

He was disturbed by the occupant and fled empty handed.

Forensic evidence left on the garden forks identified Kean as the suspect and he was subsequently arrested and charged.

Det Const Christopher Pitt from Leamington Proactive CID said: "Burglary is extremely traumatic for victims and leaves a lasting impact. I am pleased Kean is now behind bars.

"This sentence should reassure people of our commitment to tackling burglary and bringing offenders to justice."
