Students at Aylesford School may have to wait until the middle of November to return back to the classroom on a daily basis.

After potentially dangerous concrete and asbestos were found at the Tapping Way school earlier this month, only some pupils have been able to head back to school, with the remaining year groups having to study from home.

And while the school's headteacher Tim Hodgson said he and the local authorities are doing what they can to get youngsters back learning in person, he said in a statement today (September 20) it will be a slow process.

"Our temporary classrooms are at least four to six weeks away and without them, we have no additional space onsite," he said.

"In addition, there are a number of external agencies that will need to carry out preliminary work before we bring more students into school.

"Since I have no control over how long this will take, we are having to consider several different ways to move forward.

"Our planning is well underway and you will be the first to know when we are able to proceed."

The school is now planning to rotate which years groups will be on site, with "online learning supporting face to face teaching".

Local MP for Matt Western has called on the Secretary of State for Education to prioritise support for Aylesford School.

"Finally, a question I have no useful answer to at the moment. How long before we get back to normal? When I do know I promise I will tell you," Mr Hodgson's statement added.

"Resilience comes in many forms but everyone needs help sometimes.

"Thank you to everyone who has offered their support, understanding and a helping hand."
