A third of spaces at a Warwick car park could be fenced off for private use

A third of spaces in a Warwick town centre car park could be fenced off for private use, if plans are signed off by council planners.
Warwick District Council has submitted a planning application to itself, asking for permission to enclose 32 of the 99 spaces at West Rock Car Park.
Put forward earlier this month, the scheme says a 2.4 metre-high steel fence would be built around the southern end of the car park, with gates in places around the spaces.
The application says these measures at Commainge Close would be "temporary" for five years.
The spaces would be reserved for nearby flats.
"The proposed development is necessary following the closure of another council-owned car park which previously housed the resident's private car parking spaces, secured by their leasehold contracts," the application said.
The car park will still be owned and managed by Warwick District Council.
"In summary, the proposed development seeks to enclose 32 car parking spaces within the wider West Rock Car Park to provide private parking for an existing residential block of whom the tenants have lost their private car parking provision due to the closure of an alternative town centre car park," the application explained.
"The new fencing and gates proposed would appropriately distinguish this area for use by these residents from the wider public parking and ensure the site is securely locked and only accessible to residents and relevant management staff."
